After Christmas is out of the way we’ll be seeing 2012 in with a bang. We’re all very pleased to announce that StepSons will be returning to The Monty for New Year’s Eve.
The band have had an incredible year touring the world with Katy B, but they wanted to see the New Year in at home in Peckham, so where better than The Monty?
The last time they played at the pub was easily one of the best nights we’ve had, so we’re delighted to welcome them along for New Year’s Eve. Expect a sophisticated mix of Soul, Hip Hop, Electronica and 2 Step… and maybe a couple of surprise guests!
We’re more than aware of just how much of a pain New Year’s can be, so to make things a little easier for everyone this will be a free event; you don’t need a ticket, just come and join us for a glass of the fizzy stuff and some of the best live music Peckham has to offer.
LFR mainstays Pete Hellicar and Matthew Cook rounded off the evening of broadcasts with a real gem of a show. They welcomed along Winstan Whitter, the director of The Four Aces Story: Legacy In The Dust, which was shown as part of The Montpelier’s first birthday celebrations. The three, who had all met years previously as teen skaters on the Southbank, discuss business and pleasures, all set to the perfect soundtrack.
The second installment of London Fields Radio Goes South features a special set from Blacktronica founder, Run Dem Crew instigator, Spoken Word innovator and all-round London legend Charlie Dark, who presents a programme packed full of his favourite platters and reminisces on a life spent in the Capital.
As part of our recent first birthday celebrations we invited London Fields Radio down to the pub for an evening of southbound broadcasts. It was a great night, with some great shows recorded in the Back Room Cinema. Legally Blind In Peckham is the first of three that we’ll be sharing, with hosts Milo and Lucy talking with Rozsa Farkas from Arcadia Missa, Matt Chlebeck of Pictures Music and Skid, the Monty’s favourite easel botherer most commonly seen propping up the bar.
Few photographers can lay claim to a legacy like B+. The Irish born photographer moved to California in the early Nineties and became an integral member of the LA Hip Hop community. As Photo Editor for Larry Flint’s seminal Rap Pages he worked with many of the artists, DJs and producers who helped shape the sound of contemporary Hip Hop. Over the past two decades he has worked on hundreds of classic album covers, including those by DJ Shadow, Q Tip, Mos Def and RZA. He has also made the acclaimed films Keepintime with Cut Chemist and Timeless in Rio with Arthur Verocai. B+ is now the Photo Editor of Wax Poetics, still answers his own phone and still digs like crazy. www.mochilla.com/bplus
